Perché immolare Apu? “The problem with Apu”

Apu è il proprietario del Jet Market, di origini indiane, e incarna lo stereotipo dell’immigrato indiano sul suolo americano. Una trovata per ridere, per mettere in piedi qualche gag? Certo, ma in realtà Apu è diventato un caso.  Lo è diventato, prepotentemente, dopo l’uscita del documentario “The problem with Apu” di Hari Kondabolu.

Insomma, il successo dei Simpson ha proiettato i suoi protagonisti nell’immaginario collettivo, al punto di mettere in condizione gli attori di origine indiana che lavorano a Hollywood a dover sostenere casting in cui si chiedeva di parlare “con un accento più come Apu”.

Una semplice denuncia? No, negli Stati Uniti ha scatenato un’onda di polemiche. Al punto tale da mettere in dubbio la presenza dello stesso Apu nella prossima serie de “I Simpson”. A confermare questa tesi, il fatto che il doppiatore statunitense di Apu, Hank Azaria, con ogni probabilità rifiuterà di doppiare il personaggio.
